The University of Georgia Department of Dance will present the annual Senior Exit Concert Thursday through Saturday, November 11-13, 2010 at 8pm. Eight graduating seniors have composed unique works that originate from a variety of different inspirations. The dance majors have created an evening of dance that express their artistic voices, and represents a culmination of all that they have learned.
When BA student Tara Hemmer was asked about her inspiration she explained that she was able to use her background as an English Minor that enabled her to “create a piece through an analytical lens by using multiple literary images”. BFA Mallory Baxley’s was inspired by the nature of show business. Her piece “presents a contrast of the glamour of the performing world against the jealousy, deception and heartbreak that is its reality.” Other pieces are incorporating different components of multimedia such as spoken word, an array of props, and lighting effects that will enhance the individual choreographers’ personal aesthetics.
BA student Alison Foster explains that The University of Georgia Dance Department, Class of 2010’s Senior Exit is a multifaceted program, that not only expresses each senior’s own personal vision, but also demonstrates the growth of all eight dancer/ choreographers as artists through the process of creating the Senior Exit Concert
The Senior Exit Concert is held at The New Dance Theatre at The University of Georgia Dance Department South Stanford St. 30605 On November 11-13 2010 at 8 PM. Tickets can be purchased at Tate Center or at the door.
I will try to be there! I love watching dance, since I can't do it that well myself, so I'm looking forward to it :)
